Snaps: A morning in J-Bay

At the beginning of August, my mom and I took a little trip up the coast just to get away for a bit and spend some time together. She had recently wrapped up five intense years of political work as a ward councillor in the Overstrand municipality and I was on the brink of starting a brand new job after a few months of trying to make ends meet as a freelancer (more about all of this another time).

In short, we both needed a little breather before stepping into something new.

Our end destination was Addo Elephant National Park – where my mom had booked five nights’ accommodation in the southern-most camp – but en route, we stopped over in Jeffreys Bay to spend the night with our dear friends (and grandparents of my cousins in America) Oom Pieter and Tannie Cielie.

We arrived after dark on the Saturday night, but headed out early on Sunday morning to soak up some of the laid-back Eastern Cape coastal vibes before continuing toward the bush.

Supertubes was our first stop, where we followed the boardwalks down to the beach, had a glorious little stroll, met a few dogs and collected a couple of pretty shells. After this we made for the Billabong factory shop (which is still pretty expensive even though the clothes are about half the price you would pay in a shop :/) and then enjoyed a milk tart and coffee special, as well as a lovely view of the main beach, at the Beach Break Restaurant.

Here are a couple of snaps:
